Bodenham Natural Flood Management Project Launch

DEFRA have allocated £15M towards the introduction of Natural Flood Management (NFM) measures across the country and Bodenham is the focus for one of several NFM projects now being initiated in the County by Herefordshire Council, the Environment Agency, the Wye and Usk Foundation and other partners.

NFM is based around the principle of working with natural processes to help slow down the flow of water, aiming to hold the water back in the upper reaches of the catchment to help reduce the risk of flooding to downstream communities. NFM can involve a variety of things including; working with farmers to help improve their land management practices with the aim of increasing soil infiltration, installing attenuation features (e.g. ponds and wetlands), and building leaky woody structures which help slow the flow of water down the channel.

Come along to the Project Launch to find out how such natural processes could help alleviate flooding in Bodenham from the Millcroft and Moor Brooks, such as happened in 2007, and share your experiences and ideas with the team members.

The doors open at 6.45pm and the presentation starts at 7.00pm sharp, with time afterwards for questions and discussion. Free refreshments will be available.
