PARISH COUNCIL NEWS (MARCH 2019)

Parish Council Elections: could You be a councillor?
Elections to all ten seats on Bodenham Parish Council will be held on Thursday, 2nd May. Councillors will serve for four years. In the interests of democracy, the Parish Council encourages as many eligible people as possible to stand for election.

The Parish Council is the grassroots level of local government, which represents the community’s interests and views to Herefordshire Council and other bodies. It meets every month on the first Monday of the month (bank holidays excepted) to consider and take action on local issues such as planning applications, transport, traffic, crime prevention - and much more. This Website http://www.bodenhamparish.org.uk/ contains a wealth of information, including the Minutes of Parish Council Meetings.

With continual cutbacks to Herefordshire Council’s budget, parish councils are being asked to do more and more, which makes it all the more important that we continue to have a strong and active Parish Council. Herefordshire Council is holding a briefing session for prospective candidates on Thursday, 7th March in the Assembly Hall in the Town Hall. There are details and a poster about this on this website here, but please contact the Parish Clerk, if you have any queries (details below).

Planning Applications
Four planning applications were considered at the January Meeting of the Parish Council. The applications were:

  • - 184607: Redbridge Cottage: Proposed replacement dwelling with garage and extension to residential curtilage.

  • - 184638 and 184639: Broadfield Court: Proposed raised floor and works to existing openings in Grade 2 listed tithe barn to create a wedding ceremony space, and formation of new openings and alterations to existing openings in adjacent single storey barn, which is to be used as an event space.

  • - 190132: Bridge Cottage: Proposed works to 1 x Bradley Apple Tree - medium pruning, 2 x Hazel shrubs/ trees - coppice to ground level - potential damage to greenhouse.

  • The Parish Council made no objection these three applications.

  • 174285 and 174286: Planning Appeals at Land Adjacent to Brockington Hall.

  • The Parish Council reiterated its objections to this application and submitted a further statement to the appeals inspector to the effect that the policies contained in the Bodenham Neighbourhood Development Plan should be given full consideration now that it had been adopted. The statement added that there were errors in the appellant’s statement.

    An Outdoor Gym in Bodenham?
Would you like to use an outdoor gym? The Parish Council would like to know. Leaflets and a short questionnaire have been placed at various locations in Bodenham: there are details in the February and March issues of the Newsletter and on this Website here, or can be obtained from the Parish Clerk. Please give us your views. Questionnaires can be returned in collection boxes at the Post Office and Saffrons Garage or electronically to the Parish Clerk.
