St Michael and All Angels Church Bodenham Notice

ST MICHAEL’S WEATHERVANE APPEAL - CAN YOU HELP?

The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that the cockerel sitting atop the spire of St Michael’s Church is now balancing, rather precariously, on one leg as a result of the recent Storm Hannah. Indeed, by the time you read this, he may have already been removed. We suspect that the pivot mechanism has seized and a leg has been (rather painfully) wrenched from his body in the wind!

Recovery, repair, re-gilding and reinstallation costs have been estimated at around £3000. We hope to raise some of this in grant funding, but are appealing for the help of the village to restore this fine chap back to his former glory. (The weathervane was last gilded in 1976). We plan to have a party and traditional ceremony of village children jumping over the weather vane before it is reinstalled.

Any help you could give would be gratefully received. Cheques made payable to “Bodenham PCC” and marked on the back “Weathervane Appeal” can be dropped off at The Vicarage, Bodenham or at Field Edge, Chapel Lane (three doors up from the Chapel). Other fundraising ideas or payment in other forms gratefully received! Contact Revd Paul Roberts 797863 or Jim Crane 797095.
