Bodenham Parish Council Notice

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS (JULY 2020)

Parish Council Meetings.
It is still not possible to set a date for the resumption of Parish Council meetings - no meetings having been held since 2nd March, and the Meeting on Monday 3rd August being the earliest possible date by which Parish Council meetings can be resumed. In the meantime, essential Parish Council business is conducted remotely. When meetings resume, there is likely to be a backlog of business, such that at this point it is not possible to say when or whether the annual meetings, which should have taken place at the May meeting, will take place. Updates will be given, when available, via the Newsletter and, more immediately, via the Website, Facebook page and mailing list. See below for details of these.

Vacancy on the Parish Council.
One vacancy remains on the Parish Council. In the hope that the Parish Council can meet on Monday 3rd August, could anyone interested in joining the Parish Council please contact the Clerk as soon as possible and by 31st July at the latest. The Clerk can give details of the responsibilities of a parish councillor and the process of appointment - neither of which are particularly onerous.

Planning Applications.
Planning applications will be considered remotely by the Parish Council. The following planning applications have been received in the last month:

  • 201414/F: Workshop 1, Hamwyn Joinery, Bodenham HR1 3HT: Proposed extension to workshop to provide living accommodation. The Parish Council made a qualified comment to this application.

  • 200223: Barns at Bowley Lane: Notification for prior approval for a proposed change of use of agricultural building to a dwelling house (Class C3) and for associated operational development. The applicants have appealed against the refusal of this application by Herefordshire Council. The Parish Council has reiterated its comments on the original application.

  • The Annual Audit of the Parish Council……..
…….. Has been completed, approved by the Internal Auditor and sent to the External Auditor. A notice has been posted on noticeboards and on the Parish Website announcing the period for public inspection of the Parish Council’s audit figures. This period is for a month from early July.

    FixMyStreet…….
….. Is a way of reporting potholes and other defects in Bodenham. A new improved version has just been released and can now be downloaded to your phone as an app, which you can use to make reports. See https://www.mysociety.org/2020/04/03/what-youll-notice-on-fixmystreet-3-0/. The app is much better than Herefordshire Council’s reporting tools.

    Bodenham Lake……
…. Car park remains closed to limit numbers. However, it is not physically possible to close the Lake as there are public rights-of-way on site. Herefordshire Wildlife Trust (HWT) have given the reason for the closure as “…. Opening the car park …. Will attract more people to the site and as many more people are staying local …… people will still end up parking in the village.” HWT have asked for volunteers to open and close the car park. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact James Hitchcock - HWT’s Senior Estates Manager - on J.hitchcock@herefordshirewt.co.uk

The Concrete Bridge behind Bodenham Church….
….. Between the churchyard and the metal bridge across the river has been closed for some time and remains closed. Please do not attempt to cross the bridge: it is badly corroded and in danger of collapse.
It is unsafe and will be replaced by Balfour Beatty, possibly later this summer. However, the tape preventing access has been untied on several occasions. If you find that the tape has been untied, could you please replace it, while not taking any risks, given that the bridge is unsafe.

Keep up to date with local issues - sign up for the mailing list
An increasing number of residents are joining the mailing list, through which the Parish Council sends important updates to local residents by email with information about such things as roadworks, weather warnings and local events - and, currently, coronavirus updates from Herefordshire Council and elsewhere. If you would like to join the list, email Chris Smith at bodenhampcclerk@gmail.com. You won’t be deluged with email, your personal details will not be passed on to anyone else and you can unsubscribe at any time.

    The Parish Website……
…….. Is continually updated. Find the latest coronavirus news there. The Home Page now shows a list of future events in chronological order, as well as the latest notices, addresses to go to, Parish Council Minutes, and much more. Find out there about Bodenham past, present and future, local news and crime prevention alerts. http://www.bodenhamparish.org.uk/ is the website address.
