Bodenham Parish Council Notice

Volunteers needed
If you think you could help the Parish Council in any of the following areas, where assistance may be needed shortly:
  • helping with the Speed Indicator Device (see below)
  • operating the Parish Website
  • helping with the catering for the Litter Pick (see below)
  • please let the Parish Clerk know at bodenhampcclerk@gmail.com.

    The Speed Indicator Device (SID)
You may have noticed that the SID hasn’t been seen much recently. That is because its movers have been isolating or shielding. It is hoped to restore the SID to action, but it is ageing and may need replacing soon. Data from the SID over the years have consistently shown that it reduces the average speed of drivers as they pass it. Some drivers, of course, ignore it completely, but overall it has a positive effect.

    Parking near Playground
It has been reported that cars parked near to the Playground have been making life difficult for residents seeking to access their homes. The Playground has been a great success. It attracts people from outside Bodenham, who may not realise that parking can cause problems for residents. Please enjoy the Playground, but be aware of how parking can cause problems.

    The Next Parish Council Meeting………
…….. will take place at 7.30pm on Monday 5th October at the Siward James Centre. Please note that, although everyone is most welcome to attend,
  • social distancing will be observed rigorously;
  • sanitiser will be available and,
  • most importantly, the number of members of the public attending the Meeting will be limited and entry to the Meeting will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

  • If you wish to raise any matter in advance of the Meeting, please contact Chris Smith, Parish Clerk, on 01568-797132 or by email at bodenhampcclerk@gmail.com.

Please note: the ‘Rule of Six’ may mean that the Meeting cannot go ahead and that, if it does with only six people present, it will not be possible to admit members of the public to the Meeting.

    Vacancy on the Parish Council
One vacancy on the Parish Council has still to be filled. Please put yourself forward or nominate someone (with their permission). It is hoped that the vacancy will be filled at the earliest possible opportunity.

The Next Litter Pick - a Volunteer or Two Needed.
The next Litter Pick will be held on Saturday 7th November - subject to confirmation. All welcome. Although the usual arrangements will apply (i.e. 10.30 start at Bodenham Parish Hall: equipment provided by Balfour Beatty: free hot soup and rolls in the Parish Hall for all who have collected litter). Could someone volunteer to help with the soup and rolls, please. For more details contact the Parish Clerk, Chris Smith, on 01568-797132 or at bodenhampcclerk@gmail.com.

Please note: again the ‘Rule of Six’ may produce changes to the programme - the soup and rolls, in particular - or even force the cancellation of the Litter Pick. Please keep an eye on the Parish Website, Facebook page and noticeboards for late announcements.

    Planning Applications
During the period of lockdown most planning applications seemed to be for tree works in the Conservation Area, which were all approved by the Parish Council. Recent applications include:

  • 202764: The White House: Remove large Wellingtonia (T1) by way of dismantling due to excessive shade, risk of falling branches and risk of serious damage to adjacent buildings, property and services, should the tree fall. Replanting would be considered. The Parish Council objected to this application.

  • 202513/FH Lower House, Bowley Lane, Bodenham HR1 3LF, Two Storey Extension. The Parish Council did not object to this application.

  • Parish Council Facebook page. The Parish Council now has a Facebook page to complement the Website. Click ‘bodenham parish council’ and press ‘LIKE’. The Website address is http://www.bodenhamparish.org.uk/.

Keep up to date with Local Issues - Sign up for the Mailing List
An increasing number of residents are joining the mailing list, through which the Parish Council sends important updates to local residents by email with information about such things as roadworks, weather warnings and local events - and, currently, coronavirus updates from Herefordshire Council and elsewhere. If you would like to join the list, email Chris Smith at bodenhampcclerk@gmail.com. You won’t be deluged with email, your personal details will not be passed on to anyone else and you can unsubscribe at any time.

    The Parish Website……
…….. is continually updated. Find the latest coronavirus news there. The Home Page now shows a list of future events in chronological order, as well as the latest notices, addresses to go to, Parish Council Minutes, and much more. Find out there about Bodenham past, present and future, local news and crime prevention alerts. http://www.bodenhamparish.org.uk/ is the website address. You can also find the Bodenham Newsletter there.
