Bodenham Parish Council Notice
PARISH COUNCIL NEWS (FEBRUARY 2021)
The next Parish Council meetings are scheduled to take place on 1st February and 1st March, but are unlikely to take place in face-to-face form. Instead the Parish Council hopes to hold the meeting via Zoom. If so, the Meeting ID and Password will be published on all forums as soon as they are known.
If you require details or further information or wish to raise any matter in advance of the meeting, please contact Chris Smith, Parish Clerk, on 01568-797132 or by email at bodenhampcclerk@gmail.com.
The Parish Council Website……… …… is to be replaced. The existing website – http://www.bodenhamparish.org.uk/ - will remain operative until the end of the year, but will be replaced gradually by a new website. Updates will follow.
The SID (Speed Indicator Device)……. …… will be replaced as soon as possible. After extensive research, a new device has been chosen and demonstrated online by the supplier. So, it will happen. Please be patient.
Census The decennial census is almost upon us. Households across Herefordshire will soon be asked to take part in the nationwide survey of housing and the population. It has been carried out every decade since 1801, with the exception of 1941. Information from the digital-first census will help decide how services are planned and funded in your local area. This could mean things like doctors’ surgeries, housing or new bus routes. Households will receive a letter with a unique access code in the post, allowing them to complete their questionnaire online. Paper questionnaires will be available on request. Census day is March 21.
Reporting Potholes and Other Defects Please note that, although the Parish Clerk is frequently asked to report defects (especially potholes and blocked drains), the Locality Steward for Bodenham has asked that residents report defects themselves, because they know exactly where the defect is and what it is. It is easy to do. The Herefordshire Council website has a reporting tool at https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/roads-1/report-problems-road which is very easy to use. https://www.fixmystreet.com/ is a national site and is even easier to use: it uses the Ordnance Survey map, which is more accurate and detailed than the Herefordshire Council map. FixMyStreet will forward a report to Herefordshire Council about any problem reported within a Herefordshire postcode.
Vacancy on the Parish Council One vacancy on the Parish Council has still to be filled. Names have been put forward, but the opportunity to put yourself forward is still open. The pandemic is the problem, as ever, because the normal method of co-opting seems to require a face-to-face meeting. The Parish Council is going to consider alternatives, but it may be necessary to postpone filling the vacancy, until normal service is resumed.
Community Speed Watch The Parish Council applied some years ago to introduce a Community Speed Watch in the village, but the application has been delayed by several factors outside the Parish Council’s control. Recently, progress has been made towards starting the Scheme. Watch this space.
