Bodenham Parish Council Notice

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS (JUNE 2021)

The Next Parish Council Meetings are scheduled to take place on Mondays 7th June and 5th July. However, councils are no longer allowed to hold remote or virtual meetings by order of the High Court, because the primary legislation needed to allow such meetings was not renewed by the Government in England. It was renewed by the Scottish and Welsh governments. Accordingly, the 7th June Parish Council Meeting cannot take place, because no Covid-secure premises are available. If the relaxation of lockdown rules proceeds as planned, the 5th July Meeting will take place at Siward James. It will start at 7pm, in order to accommodate the Annual Parish Meeting and Annual Parish Council Meeting, which were scheduled for 10th May, but had to be postponed, because of the High Court’s ruling. It is not too late for local societies and organisations to submit and/or present a report on their activities for this Meeting.

For further information or if you wish to raise any matter in advance of a meeting, please contact Chris Smith, Parish Clerk, on 01568-797132 or by email at bodenhampcclerk@gmail.com. Minutes of Parish Council meetings are available on this Website at here.

Vacancies on the Parish Council
There are now two vacancies on the Parish Council. Neither vacancy can be filled immediately, because remote or virtual meetings are no longer legally permitted and are, in any case in the view of the Parish Council, not a conducive medium for allowing the usual procedures for making a co-option to the Parish Council to be followed. Accordingly, the vacancies will be filled at the next face-to-face meeting.

Invitations to Apply
The Parish Council wishes to appoint someone who is qualified to spray vegetation. The Parish Council also wishes to appoint someone who is qualified to use a mini-digger. Anyone interested should contact the Parish Clerk at bodenhampcclerk@gmail.com for further information.

The SID (Speed Indicator Device)…….
…… should have been delivered by now, but has been delayed by software problems. A demonstration and training session has been arranged for early June, after which the new SID will be deployed as soon as possible in the usual places on the C1125, Millcroft Road and near the War Memorial in rotation on a schedule agreed by Herefordshire Council.

Bodenham Post Office
Bodenham Parish Council was asked by the Post Office to suggest sites where a mobile post office might visit Bodenham. Before a reply could be made, a mobile post office appeared with permission on Bache's forecourt on Monday 10th May between 12.00 and 13.00. The Parish Council was later told that this was to be a regular weekly arrangement. It has written to the Post Office asking for clarification and whether this is to be a permanent arrangement and whether more or longer visits could be made.

Reporting Potholes and Other Defects
Please note that, although the Parish Clerk is frequently asked to report defects (especially potholes and blocked drains), the Locality Steward for Bodenham has asked that residents report defects themselves, because they know exactly where the defect is and what it is.

It is easy to do. The Herefordshire Council website has a reporting tool at https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/report-problem which is very easy to use. www.fixmystreet.com is a national site and is even easier to use: it uses the Ordnance Survey map, which is more accurate and detailed than the Herefordshire Council map. FixMyStreet will forward a report to Herefordshire Council about any problem reported within a Herefordshire postcode.
